Update!!

I've been working on my magazine the past few weeks. It's a lot more work then I thought but i am committed to it and determined to have a completed magazine by the end of the year. Getting enough material together to create the magazine is the hard part. I will be working on another photo shoot this week which I hope to find a cover photo in one of the shots.

For our exhibition in February I hope to showcase my photographs, print them in large format to really show them off. It's exciting to imagine what the finished piece will be.

Sylvie Fleury Light Sculpture

I love how the artist is sending us a message through the use of text but in an inventive way. i.e.: the lights. Its fun and interesting. This is something I would like to try in my project using my own text.

I was researching artist and photographer Sylvie Fleury's work and I found a piece that is coincidentally quite similar to  piece of photography of my own.

Photography

Here is a snippet of my day in the photography studio. I photographed my own designs and work. I played around with lighting and composition. These photographs are yet to be edited.

I love the reflections that the lighting gives against the shiny surface.

Magazine! NEW PROJECT

After giving this a lot of thought I have finally come up with another interesting and fun idea for my project. I really want to show case my work in a different way this year. Sometimes I feel hanging my work up on a wall or in a portfolio just isn't enough for me. So this is where I came up with the idea of creating my own magazine. The entire contents of the magazine is yet to be fully decided but I think it is a great way to show off my photos hoots, my prints etc.. it's an exciting project that will take quite some time but I am determined to make it amazing.

Maybe I will be the next Anna Wintour ;)

Learned a new method of screen printing (image not relevant to my current project)

Light set up for photo shoot

Today in our photography class we learned all about the lighting that is used in photo shoots. It was very interesting to find out about all the different lighting and how much different a particular light and angle can make such a difference to a photograph.

T-shirts I made

These are just a few of the t-shirts I have made. They are going to be featured in an upcoming photo shoot that I am currently in the process of organizing.

Documentary "The secret world of Haute Couture"

Documentary: "Girl Model"

Very interesting documentary about a young girl who gets scouted by a modeling agency at a young age. This documentary is very raw and shows the part of the industry that some people forget exists.

Research...

For my project I have been doing research on the background of the modeling industry and how models are treated behind the scenes.  Here are some interesting articles I have come across:

For my project this year, I wanted to base it around something that I have a lot of passion for and that is a "PASSION FOR FASHION." I love all things fashion and I especially love great FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY.

I have just started the idea and research process so as the weeks go on my project idea may change slightly but this is the general gist!!

  • Studying the works of fashion photographers
  • Looking at how a fashion advertisement can glamorize an object, the model etc...
  • How something like 'smoking' can be glamorized in a fashion shoot
  • Breaking down the photograph  ie: the models pose, facial expression, body language, what are they trying to sell, what does the image portray to you?
  • How women in fashion are used as sexual objects

Some artists I have been researching are:

                                              Jessica Craig Martin (fashion photographer)

Jeurgen Teller (fashion photographer)

3rd YEAR

A new year, a new beginning. I thought I'd start off this year with a Blog Post. Starting a new college year is always exciting. It is a time for a fresh start and new ideas.

One more experiment with Silkscreen.

Collaging onto the whites of the hands would be an interesting idea.

I had an image of my Grandads hands that I had on my silkscreen and I couldn't leave it there without doing something with it. I wanted to have some pieces in my project that were abstract. I continuously printed the image on the paper moving it slightly to the lest each time to get a moving effect. I chose to use black and white as they are strong, solid colors.

New Prints

Experimenting with color.

Here I experimented by printing on a long sheet of Fabriano Paper. I like the effect of the different pinks and lilacs gradually fading down the paper.
