WOODBLOCK

For woodblock I wanted to stick to the same idea of using masks as my main feature of my prints but this time I decided to use masquerade masks. I love the idea of masquerade balls. I find the masks so mysterious and beautiful.

I had an idea straight from the start of what I wanted my print to look like. I wanted to use berry colors like reds, purple, raspberry...

Though woodcut is a long process I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed doing it. I loved layering colors and seeing my print come to life.
I then screen printed a drawing I did of Guy Fawkes face on top of the quote. I wasn't happy with the finished product... so I went back to the drawing board and came up with a new idea that I was much happier with. My new images shows protesters . hooded figures, masked men etc. I added color of red fading into yellow. Red is the color of fire, or rage and that is the feeling protesters have.

QUOTE

I chose a quote from Oscar Wilde that stood out to me to use in my prints.....

I typed out this quote and with grey ink I screen printed it on as my background.

Screen print

We are starting Screen print and this is a process I really enjoyed learning about last year! Some of my favorites prints came out of screen print.

This year the process is slightly different... we are not using photographs for our prints, we have to draw our own image. (We have been focusing a lot on drawing this year)

The theme I have chose to base my prints on is PROTEST. I thought this would be quite an interesting there as protests are such a popular way of free speech in today's society. One group of protesters I have always been intrigued about were the group ANONYMOUS. They cover their faces by wearing the Guy Fawkes mask.
